Soprano Leslie Higgins has a passion for music, performance, and teaching. She recently graduated from Western University with her Honours Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance. Her achievements in performance led her to the University of Toronto, where she is currently pursuing her Master of Music in Vocal Performance, studying under the tutelage of Nathalie Paulin.
Leslie grew up in Uxbridge, Ontario, and was drawn to the arts community at a young age. She began taking voice and piano lessons at 8 years old and has performed onstage in over 15 musical theatre productions. Some of her favourite roles include Rizzo in Grease, Diana in A Chorus Line, and Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins. She discovered her love for classical music through choral singing. She performed with the Uxbridge Youth Choir for 12 years and has been fortunate enough to sing four summers with the Ontario Youth Choir and was chosen to represent Ontario in the 2017 National Youth Choir. More recently she has begun her Opera career, making her debut as Giulietta in Halifax Summer Opera’s production of Les contes d’Hoffmann, and soon after performing as Yum-Yum in Western Opera’s production of The Mikado.
Leslie brings her upbeat and engaging personality to each lesson, and fosters a welcoming, optimistic, and inclusive learning environment. She is a passionate learner and enjoys shaping her teaching style and language to best fit each students’ unique needs. Due to her varied musical background, Leslie is happy to explore any kind of music. She believes in building on each student’s musical traditions and heritage, encouraging them to perform music that has a personal meaning to them.
