What is Kidzrock?

Kidzrock is a celebrated music program that introduces young children to the world of rock music in a way that’s engaging, accessible, and downright fun. Unlike traditional music lessons that can sometimes feel rigid or overwhelming for younger children, Kidzrock uses a play-based approach that encourages creativity and exploration. The program is designed to teach kids the basics of playing an instrument in a rock band, without the pressure of home practice or mastering difficult music theory concepts right away.

The core of Kidzrock lies in its band-based structure. Each class, your child will rehearse and perform with their bandmates on three different instruments: drums, electric guitar, and keyboard. The band rotates roles, allowing every child to get a taste of each instrument and learn the basics of all three. This approach not only keeps things exciting but also helps kids develop a well-rounded understanding of music.

To make the experience even more accessible, Kidzrock uses a simplified, color-coded note-reading system that allows kids to jump right into playing music. No need to read traditional sheet music. Our Kidzrock songbook is filled with fun, instrumental rock songs written specifically for the program, and the instruments themselves are modified for small hands, making it easy for even the youngest musicians to play.

And the best part? All instruments are provided by The Music Studio, and there’s no need for home practice. Kidzrock is designed to be an all-in-one, in-class experience that allows kids to learn and grow as musicians without added stress at home.

What Your Child will Learn?

Kidzrock isn’t just about having fun though there’s plenty of that! The program also provides a solid foundation in music that will serve your child for years to come. Here’s a look at what your child will learn in Kidzrock:

The basic mechanics of guitar, drums, and keyboards

Your child will gain hands-on experience with each instrument, learning how to hold and play them properly. They’ll understand how to strum a guitar, keep rhythm on the drums, and play melodies on the keyboard.

Reading and playing notes on both the treble and percussion clefs

Kidzrock introduces kids to the basics of note reading in a simplified format with our colour-coded system.

Improvisation

Creativity is key in music, and Kidzrock encourages kids to explore their own musical ideas. Improvisation helps children develop their own unique voice as musicians and fosters confidence in their abilities.

Singing on pitch 

In addition to playing instruments, your child will also work on singing in tune. Singing on pitch is an essential skill for any musician, and Kidzrock helps kids develop this skill in a fun, supportive environment.

Musical dynamics

Understanding dynamics—how loud or soft to play—is an important part of musical expression. Kidzrock teaches kids how to use dynamics to create more expressive performances.

Musical terms and definitions

Your child will be introduced to essential musical terms and definitions, building their musical vocabulary and helping them communicate more effectively as musicians.

How to play in a rock band

Perhaps most importantly, Kidzrock teaches kids how to play in a group setting. They’ll learn how to listen to their bandmates, stay in sync with the rhythm, and contribute to a cohesive, well-rounded performance.

Times: Monday 4:30 pm, 6:30 pm; Tuesday 5:00 pm; Wednesday 4:30 pm, 6:30 pm; Thursday 5:30 pm; Saturday 11:00 am, 12:00 pm; Sunday 12:30 pm.

Students enrolled in the Kidzrock program are able to rehearse and perform on drums, electric guitar, and the keyboard. The band rotates roles, so each member gets a chance to learn the basics of all three instruments!

Missed Classes – You may re-schedule a maximum of TWO classes per session subject to the availability of a place in an appropriate class. Sessions Dates: Fall/Winter: September 1-January 31. Winter/Spring: February 1-June 30.
