Guitar and Bass Lessons
At The Music Studio, beginning through advanced students can focus on Rock, Pop, Jazz or
Classical musical styles. Our trained teachers will work with you to ensure that you are
getting what you want from your lessons.
As a beginning student, you will learn how to tune and properly hold your acoustic or electric
guitar, or bass. Guitar students progress to learning techniques such as flatpicking,
fingerpicking, slurs and soloing concepts. Electric bass students progress to learning how to
play parts that are appropriate for different musical styles including walking bass lines and
slapping, and how to play with a good sense of time and feel. Acoustic bass students will
develop their tone, time and bowing techniques for classical music. Bass students who are
interested in jazz will focus on tone, time and how to play a variety of bass lines. Guitar
and bass students will also learn how to read music using standard notation, chord symbols
and tablature. As an intermediate or advanced student, you will play a variety of musical
styles as you continue to focus on developing your overall technique including the playing
of chords, scales and arpeggios. Ear training is also covered which allows you to develop the
ability to learn songs by ear. Students are encouraged to bring recordings of songs they wish
to learn to their lessons.
More advanced guitar and bass students may focus on further developing their technical skills as well as their understanding and ability to play pop, rock, jazz or classical styles.
