Music in Motion Children’s Program

The Music Studio's Music in Motion Program is designed to bring children 6 months to 7 years of age together in small, age-appropriate groups where they will experience the fun and creativity of music in a stimulating learning environment.

This program focuses on the basics of music:

All of these concepts are presented to the children in small, age-appropriate classes using fun musical exercises and percussion instruments designed for early childhood music programs such as Music in Motion. The children are also educated and entertained through the playing of musical instruments by the teacher throughout the class.

In the class, the children learn musical skills that have wonderful rewards such as increased self-esteem, improved focus and healthy peer relationships. Our program also provides opportunities for parent and child to bond through music. Music enjoyed in a small group setting is a fantastic way for young children to work together, and provides a safe place where they can be free to express themselves.

Much has been written regarding the benefits of musical instruction and music classes for young children in terms of brain development and the development of cognitive skills. These benefits include improved language, mathematical and memory skills; and a better developed ability to concentrate at home and at school. Young children who have received music instruction often perform better at school than children who have not.

In addition to the class format, our Music in Motion Program is also offered in a private lesson setting where the individual needs of your child are the entire focus of their teacher's attention.

If a child does go on to take private instrumental or vocal lessons, this program kick starts their lifelong love and enjoyment of music.

Music in Motion Class Information

In the Baby Class, child and parent: sing happy songs and lullabies, dance, play small percussion instruments, learn movement skills that demonstrate the association between movement and sound, develop listening skills and body awareness, play stimulating games involving the use of sounds and music representing different moods, listen to their teacher play the accordion and piano, and share a special bond through music.

In the 2 Year Old and 3 Year Old Classes, child and parent: sing, play small percussion instruments and circle games, learn movement and listening skills, listen to their teacher play the accordion and piano, and have fun interacting with other children through music.

2 Year Old Class

3 Year Old Class

In the 4 & 5 Year Old and 6 & 7 Year Old Classes, children learn: one and two-part singing, play small percussion instruments and circle games, express themselves through rhythm & story creation, learn movement & listening skills, listen to recordings, listen to their teacher play the accordion and piano, experience imaginative exploration of music, become attentive listeners through fun musical exercises, and have fun interacting with other children.

4&5 Year Old Class
Friday 6:45pm or Saturday 11:15am
Fall/Winter Session (September - January) $324 for 18, 45 minute Friday classes.

Contact The Music Studio to register. A minimum of three students is required per class.

Registration Information for Music in Motion

Class fees are charged on a per session basis. Fees are payable in full on or before the first class of the session. Class fees for the Fall/Winter Session may be paid in two equal instalments, with the second instalment due on November 15. Sessions begin in September, February and July. There is no registration fee at The Music Studio.

You may pay by cash, cheque or PayPal.

Class Cancellations - A make-up class will only be scheduled if a class is cancelled by your teacher. You will not receive a credit for a missed class.
